Summary: The Driver is primarily responsible for driving long distance, and multi-state moves throughout the United States.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- MUST have strong customer service skills (always respectful, understanding, and courteous).
- Interacts with customers in a professional manner.
- Ensures motor vehicle safety when driving, backing, parking, etc.
- Maintains and prepares all necessary documents for jobs.
- Properly documents incidents such as motor vehicle accidents or safety-related matters in accordance with company policy.
- Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection reports for each job.
- Verifies all loads for accuracy and ensures loads are carefully moved from point A to B.
- Obeys and follows all applicable traffic laws and state/federal DOT regulations.
- Secures cargo and properly arranges and balances it within vehicle.
- Frequently communicates and coordinates closely with dispatch.
- Maintains a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensures any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving.
- Immediately reports any accidents/incidents/violations, etc. to dispatch.
- Plans routes and meets delivery schedules.
- Ensures daily maintenance of truck (refueling, cleaning, etc.).
- May drive either short/local or long-distance multi-state moves.
- Loads/unloads trucks with any necessary forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the success of business operations to meet company demands and expectations.
- Makes safety-conscious decisions while ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Maintains consistent attendance while exhibiting professional behavior in alignment with Roadway values.
- Maintains strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Wears presentable uniform.
- Any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years driving experience.
- A clean driving record.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination and visual and hearing acuity.
- Knowledge of Federal/multi-state DOT, driver and moving laws and requirements.
- Strong customer service experience.
- Ability to work effectively in a high volume, fast paced, and time-critical environment.
- Good at resolving problems, working safely and “switching gears” to accomplish jobs.
- Ability and experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Must be a team player, flexible with changing schedules, and ability to work at least a 40-hour schedule with frequent need for longer hours, including weekends.
- Self-starter who gets things done with minimal direction.
Salary: Commission based. $120,000-$180,000+
